These are fun! Designed for kids age 11 through 17, our adventure day camps integrate learning practical river skills with personal development in a fun, challenging setting. Participants learn fundamentals of river safety and paddling rivers while developing confidence, self-esteem, leadership, and teamwork. Campers will see how professional guides manage risk by wearing proper gear, containing trips with upstream and downstream safety and always having a back up plan. The camp emphasizes teamwork, safety and rescue, maneuvering rafts and leading paddle crews in whitewater, and much more. On some days instructors will have the team kayak, stand up paddle board or even river board for part of the day. Parents are always welcome to come see our facilities for themselves and meet with our experienced staff.
Each day we’ll integrate river fun, raft guide training and river rescue basics. The sections of river we paddle, train and play on will depend on river flows. During higher flows we tend to paddle the Blackfoot. During lower flows we run the Clark Fork. Both rivers give us a variety of sections of river to choose from to make the camp more fun. The kids get to learn and practice basic river rescue skills before working as a team with other students and instructors to respond to a series of simple rescue scenarios. Campers learn to swim rapids, self rescue, recognize and avoid hazards, flip a raft, throw a throw bag and even be a rescue swimmer. After learning some rescue skills, we focus on doing things right with some whitewater raft guide training and running sections of the Blackfoot and Clark Fork Rivers. We’ll have a blast whitewater rafting and guiding with instruction each day.
