Swiftwater Rescue Training, Raft Guide Schools, and whitewater instruction on the Alberton Gorge and Blackfoot River near Missoula, Montana. Since 1995, Montana River Guides has established a reputation based on professionalism and high-quality river trips and rescue instruction. Owner Mike Johnston has been Montana's primary Swiftwater Rescue Instructor for over 20 years. From the Yellowstone River to the Kootenai, from the Lochsa River to the Stillwater, from the Salmon River to the Gallatin, we have provided training for thousands of whitewater paddlers, guides, students, and rescuers from over 200 different organizations and agencies.
Whether we're training experienced Grand Canyon River Guides or people just learning to read water and beginning to run rivers, we always work to tailor the teaching and challenge to the students' skill and experience levels. Clients include The Revenant with Leonardo Decaprio, USAF, NOLS, Montana Fish Wildlife & Parks, The Discovery Channel, Missoula City Firefighters, Flathead County Search & Rescue, US Coastguard Helicopter Rescue Swimmers, World Class Kayak Academy, and Wild River Adventures--to name a few. In addition to being a training resource for local search and rescue teams, we also provide support for actual river rescues and searches. Now affiliated with the Whitewater Rescue Institute, MRG continues to strive to offer the most worthwhile and innovative rescue training available in the United States.
