Montana Youth Adventure Camps

Whitewater Rafting, Kayaking & Safety

Spring has arrived and it’s a great time to sign up for Montana River Guides Youth Adventure Camps. Our day camps for kids 11 to 17 years of age, get everyone out on the river each day for an exciting adventure. We typically meet at 9am in Missoula at LB Snow or at our headquarters on the banks of the Clark Fork River. Depending on river flows we may run camps on the Blackfoot River due to high river flows that typically occur during spring and early summer.

What do We teach?

During the class, students will be able to go down the river on rafts, kayaks, riverboards, and stand-up paddleboards all the while getting expert advice from our instructors. We cover everything from the basics of rowing and paddle rafting to river rescue skills and everything in between. Specifically, while we are on the river, we will go going over things like flip drills, whitewater gear, reading whitewater, and using it to our own advantage.

Along with practical skills, students will also go through their own personal growth as they learn how to mitigate risk while running whitewater. This includes leadership skills and team-building exercises as we have students go through common scenarios that occur on rivers.

What to bring?

Here at Montana River Guides we love getting on the river no matter what the weather is like. And, luckily, we have the gear to do it. However, there are things you can bring with you that can be helpful for your experience in the class. We will be outside on the river all day so dress to get wet and protect yourself from the sun.  MRG will provide all river gear including lifejacket, helmet, and wetsuits.  You wear shorts and t-shirt or swimwear. Bring small backpack with a sack lunch, water bottle, a raincoat or shell, layer of fleece, sunscreen and hat. Protect those toes with good footwear like old tennis shoes or sports sandals. Remember, no glass containers on the river. We’ll have dry bags for an extra warm layers, a first aid kit and other essentials.

We have taken many rafting trips over the years and hands down this was one of the best ones yet!!! We took a private full day rafting tour with river side picnic and couldn’t have had a better time!! Our guide set up the best lunch spread at the waterside including fresh fruit and veggie trays, salad, sandwiches, chips/salsa, and the best homemade cookies!!! We had many stops, chances to swim, small cliff jumping, and the most beautiful scenery!!! Shout out to Amy as being the most fun guide to our crazy “Billy Goat Cyrus” group from Texas!!! Request her and you won’t be disappointed!!!

Our Montana River Guide trip down the Clark Fork was the highlight to our Montana vacation. Our guide let us paddle some while we were going thru the rapids which was an awesome experience. Weather and sun on the morning trip made for some great pictures.

We did a scenic float with our young kids. This was the absolute best thing we did our whole trip! So beautiful, so much fun. Amy was our guide and she was incredibly fun, knowledgable and kind. Cannot wait to float with them again!

There were three of us over 60 year old gals on our trip. Our guide, Jack, was outstanding. We felt safe and secure under his care the whole time while having the time of our lives. The beautiful scenery and wildlife were a bonus to the incredible river with its rapids along with calm areas to relax & enjoy the ride. Top on my list of the other incredible things we did this summer.

One of the best experience in the US was spending our Sunday with Montana River Guides! The crew was able to accommodate to over 60 of us on the YSEALI alumni tour and all of us thoroughly enjoyed our time on the river - Whitewater Rafting or Scenic Tour. Guides are 100% professionals who have fun with safety in mind. Highly recommend and must visit when you're in Montana. Thanks for the memories!
